There  are  two  types  of  airports  in  India,  which  are  operated  by  AAI  and  operated  by  private companies. The major airports such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore International Airports have been already privatized. There is a big trend in privatization of airports in India. 
AAI  had  been  carrying  out  the  modernization  and  upgradating  for  many  of  its  non-metro airports. The union cabinet gave its approval for facilities development as an international airports in Lucknow, Varanasi, Mangalore, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar, and Imphal.
Airport development and operation by PPP scheme has been spreading gradually at the airport field, on the other hand airport construction and improvement by AAI tends to decrease. GoI has decided to privatize six airports (Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Guwahati) in urban areas under the airports managed by AAI and is promoting the enterprises entry airport maintenance and operations under PPP scheme. Planning Commission, GoI has developed guiding documents such as model RFQ, RFP  and Concession agreement for the PPP transaction of the Airport project.
