Short Term Traffic and Transportation Improvement Plan Studies (STTTIP)

Due to growing traffic and transportation nuances in the cities of the state which have led to wide ranging concerns amongst the policy and decision makers, a need was felt to formulate “Transportation Plan” for the medium sized urban centres so that necessary intervention on the urban transportation issues can be made during the growth process itself, thus leading to a balanced urban growth, ensuring optimum mobility opportunities. In 2003, Urban Development and Housing Department, Govt. of Gujarat (GoG) through GIDB had initiated Short Term Traffic and Transportation Improvement Plan for the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Bhavnagar, Rajkot, and Jamnagar cities. The main aim of the Study is to cater to the rapidly growing travel demand in the cities with optimum supply of transport infrastructure by enhancing the efficiency of existing facility and planning for adequate transportation infrastructure components. The four main objectives of the studies were as follows:

  • To plan for optimal transportation system for the cities given its physical, environmental and socio-economic constraints;
  • To formulate low cost traffic control and management solutions to extend immediate relief to the road users of cities;
  • To ensure mobility opportunities to all communities and groups in equitable, economic and efficient manner.
  • Through effective usage of Land-Use transport model, formulate the optimum network development strategies, to optimally integrate with the proposed Land use distribution of Area Development Authorities (ADAs) Development Plan, 2021;

    • Current Status

      The Short Term Traffic and Transportation Improvement Plans are under implementation by concerned urban local bodies.
