INTEGRATED PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM (IPTS) STUDIES

GIDB has initiated Integrated Public Transport System Studies (IPTS) for Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat cities in order to find out short term, medium term and long term measures along with institutional framework for the improvement of the traffic conditions in the cities. The technology economic feasibility study consists of three phases.

In the 1st phase, identification of the problem and demand supply gaps was to be undertaken by the identified consultant in consultation with the concerned development authorities and municipal corporations.

In the 2nd phase, an integrated public transport plan along with institutional framework is to be suggested by the consultant based on traffic simulation modelling and corridor analysis and suggest short term, medium term and long term strategies along with environmental and social impact to be implemented by the concern authorities. The recommendations were to be in synergy with the plans of the city and budgetary allocations. The consultant has also to develop a timeframe including key target dates for the implementation of the plan, propose institutional framework for implementation, operation & maintenance of the projects and identify regulatory changes required for implementation of the plan.

In the 3rd phase, the consultant has to conduct detailed technology economic feasibility of a selected system including structuring and packaging for Private Sector Participation (PSP) and financial assistance required under Viability Gap Funding (VGF), if any.

-Current Status

The short term, medium term and long term measures identified in the Integrated Public Transport System Plans are under implementation by concerned urban local bodies.
