imagepotrlistInitially, development of port has been taken up in joint sector by the joint sector company M/s. Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd. (GPPL) in which, 26 % of shares were with Gujarat Maritime Board. Later in 1998, GMB disinvested from the project and it has been decided to develop in private sector on BOOT basis.

  • Pipavav port, the first private port in the country was developed under the BOOT Policy.
  • The port is operational since 1996 having a jetty of 725m long for handling solid bulk, containers and one liquid berth for handling liquid cargo.
  • The port is now being managed by APM Mearsk and GPPL handled total cargo of 9.12 million tonnes during the year 2015-16.
  • The Port is well connected with broad gauge rail connection with commissioning of double stacked container train.
  • Company has plans for further expansion of the port, for which EIA clearance has already been obtained from MoEF.

imagehazariaAs per the Port policy, Hazira port is being developed fully in private sector.

  • Govt. granted port development rights to M/s Shell Gas B.V - an international Company and a concession agreement was executed with M/s HPPL - a company promoted by M/s Shell Group on April 2002 for developing Hazira port.
  • The company had developed LNG import and storage facilities at Hazira port, which were made operational in the year 2005.
  • During the year 2015-16, the port handled about 3.49 million tonnes of LNG. M/s Adani Hazira port Private Ltd (AHPPL) has been granted rights for (Phase 1B) development of Hazira port through Sub Concession Agreement. AHPPL has handled about 11.69 million tonnes of cargo during the year 2015-16.
  • Under the plan of Phase 1B, non LNG Terminals - Container, Liquid Bulk, Major Bulk & Minor Bulk, would be established by the developer.
  • Consequently, the construction, Capital Dredging & Reclamation works are in progress. However, construction of 5 berths has been completed and some are into operational phase.

imagemudra M/s. Mundra Port & SEZ Ltd. (previously known as Gujarat Adani Port Ltd.) is developing the Mundra port.

  • The Government of Gujarat and Adani group had joined hands in establishing Mundra port as a world-class commercial port through a joint Venture company called Adani Port & SEZ Ltd. (earlier GAPL).
  • A 632 m container wharf has been developed by M/s. Adani Container Terminal Ltd. and commenced the container handling from July, 2003.
  • Two SBMs for import of crude and sub-marine pipeline upto shore has been completed and are operational.
  • Port facilities for handling imported coal has been developed for upcoming mega power plant at village Wandh.
  • Four berths of 1640 mt are completed and have commenced cargo operations.
  • Also, approval granted to the DPR for Phase II development plan of Mundra port. The South port under Phase II plan that includes four multipurpose berths have been completed and are now operational.
  • For handling of Crude M/s HPCL Mittal Pipeline Ltd has set up a SBM &CoT for import of Crude for Bhatinda Refinery, Punjab under Sub Concession at Mundra port.

imagedhej A joint sector company M/s. Petronet LNG Ltd., have been formed by Oil sector PSU's of Government of India for development of the port. All PSUs holding 12.50 % equity in the company.

  • Oil Sector PSUs of Government of India have developed a joint sector company named M/s. Petronet LNG Ltd. (PLL).
  • PLL has developed LNG terminal at Dahej and the same has been operational since February 2004 and was the first LNG terminal in India.
  • During the year 2015-16, about 11.24 million tons of LNG cargo was imported. In principal approval for construction of standby (second LNG) Jetty at Dahej was granted to PLL and the same is constructed.

Solid Cargo Port Terminal

  • The company has also been granted rights to develop Solid Cargo Port Terminal (SCPT) under sub-concession agreement with M/s. Adani Petronet (Dahej) Pvt. Ltd- a SPV of Adani Group and Petronet.
  • The development works of the shore terminals with two berths approx. 460 m long have been completed and are now operational, with investment of approx. Rs. 1200 crores .
  • The port is connected by broad gauge rail line through conversion of existing line.
  • The existing capacity of the terminal is about 12 MMTPA.
  • During the year 2015-16, 7.98 million tones of solid cargo has been handled.
