Gujarat Island Development Authority

Gujarat Island Development Authority (GIDA) was constituted on 21^st August 2019 as per Government of Gujarat vide resolution of Home Department No: B-5/ CSS/ 1020/GOI-10 (Part-1) dated 21^st August 2019, Island Development Authority was formed under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of the state wherein CEO GIDB is the Convener.

ISLAND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MEETINGS

1^st Island Development
Authority meeting

The 1^st meeting was held on 27^th August 2019 under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of State. The members discussed the need for Island development in Gujarat with a view for safeguarding and protecting natural habitat, livelihood protection, security aspects, tourism potential, employment, investment and revenue generation. Subsequent to the deliberations, it was directed by Hon’ble Chief Minister to explore the potential for development of islands surrounded by water from all sides and having no land connections having area more than 50 Hectares.

The 2^nd meeting of Gujarat Island Development Authority was held under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of state on 07^th November 2019. A detailed audio-video presentation was made explaining briefly on the 13 islands with area greater than 50 Ha based on preliminary drone survey. It was further decided to prepare Concept Plan for 3 islands including Pirotan island, Shiyal-Savai bet and Bet Dwarka.

2^nd Island Development
Authority meeting

The 3^rd meeting of Gujarat Island Development Authority was held under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of state on 30^th June 2020. Conceptual Plan & list of identified projects for Pirotan island, Shiyal-Savai bet and Bet Dwarka were discussed in detail.

3^rd Island Development
Authority meeting

The 4^th Island development Authority Meeting was conducted on 24th June 2021 under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of State. The proposals were presented by the Tourism Department for Bet Dwarka & Shiyal Bet Island, Forest & Environment Department for Pirotan Island and Directorate of Employment & Training for Marine Skill Training Centre and the said proposals were accepted by the committee.

4^th Island Development
Authority meeting

To prepare road map for development of islands in Gujarat.
To Prepare strategies to protect the island eco-system with all its genetic diversity including policy formulation.
To co-ordinate with various State Government Departments/agencies.
To establish management information system for the island resources.

Role of GIDA

Gujarat Island Development Authority was constituted with an objective of identification and mapping of islands along Gujarat’s coastline and explore the development potential of islands in the state of Gujarat keeping in mind National security concerns
