INTRODUCTION

Gujarat believes that development of infrastructure is pivotal to industrial and economic growth. To facilitate the development of infrastructure there is an elaborate legal and organisational framework. This arrangement is symbolised by the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board, popularly known as GIDB. GIDB is a statutory organisation of the Gujarat Government.

The GIDB is a high-level body with the Chief Minister himself as its Chairman, and senior Ministers and Secretaries as its members. The Board has a senior civil servant as its CEO and has a number of in- house experts.

The statutory status of the GIDB shows the seriousness with which Gujarat Government takes the development of infrastructure and private sector participation therein.  GIDB has been created through the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Act, 1999. Better known as the GID Act. The GID Act not only provides transparent guidelines for various processes, it also consolidates the best practices in infrastructure development.

The GID Act provides a legal and regulatory framework for risk-free private sector participation. Offering a level playing field for domestic as well as international investors and the government agencies,  Building a world class infrastructure in the State and arranging maximum Public private partnership is the mission of GIDB.
