pipavavInitially, development of port has been taken up in joint sector by the joint sector company M/s. Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd. (GPPL) in which, 26 % of shares were with Gujarat Maritime Board. Later in 1998, GMB disinvested from the project and it has been decided to develop in private sector on BOOT basis.



  • Concession Agreement was executed on 30/09/98 with the company, to develop Pipavav port with 30 years BOOT period.
  • The port is operational since 1996.
  • A jetty of 725 m long for handling solid bulk and a dedicated container terminal is developed.
  • Mearsk, the international shipping line has made their base at the Port of Pipavav.
  • Broad-gauge rail connectivity provided by forming Separate Special Purpose Vehicle company (SPV) with Railway Ministry (GoI) partnership. Broad-gauge rail conversion of 270 km. from Surendranagar to Pipavav has been commissioned in May 2003.
  • Port Pipavav is the first in India to receive double-stacked container trains, which have a capacity of carrying 180 TEUs as against 90 TEUs carried in a single stack train.
  • Total Private Investment of Rs. 1645 crores is realized.
  • GPPL has taken up expansion plan of the port and various development works are taken up. Of which, development of 385 m container berths has completed which will augment container handling of the port upto 1.07 Million TEUs.
  • In the year 2008-09, the port handled total 2 million tons cargoes and 1.92 lac TEUS.

haziraAs per the Port policy, Hazira port is being developed fully in private sector.

 

 

 



  • M/s. Hazira Port Pvt. Ltd., a company promoted by an international company M/s. Shell Gas B.V. for the development of Hazira Port.
  • The company has recently issued LOI to Mundra Port & SEZ Ltd. (MPSEZL) for development of container terminal.
  • The company has signed concession agreement on April 2002 with GMB/GoG, which is on BOOT basis.
  • On development of phase-1, the port would be able to handle about 16.50 MMTPA of various types cargoes viz. LNG, general dry bulk and container.
  • The company has developed LNG berth and port facility in the year 2005 and started operation.
  • Total investment of Rs. 2408 crores is made for the development of Hazira port.
  • The company has handled LNG cargo of 1.56 million tons in the year 2008-09.
  • The company has planned to develop non LNG cargo terminal as a part of Phase 1B development plan of Hazira port.
  • Upon development of container terminal, initially the terminal capacity would be 1.24 million TEUs.
  • The port will be connected by BG Rail line through SPV.

mundra M/s. Mundra Port & SEZ Ltd. (previously known as Gujarat Adani Port Ltd.) is developing the Mundra port.

 

 

 

 

  • A Concession Agreement for development of the port on BOOT basis was signed between Government of Gujarat/ Gujarat Maritime Board and GAPL in February 2001.
  • Company has constructed 4 multipurpose berths and commenced cargo operation from September 1998. Ships up to 80000 DWT can berth at the jetty.
  • For handling of cargo, conveyor system having 18000 M. Tones Per day capacity have been installed at the jetty.
  • The port has been operational since, 1998.
  • The company has established broad gauge rail link of 57 km. at an investment of Rs.136 crores, with the port and commissioned in 2002. The port has also facilities of double-stacked container rail.
  • The company has developed a linear berth of 1843 m which includes a container berth of 632 m long operational since July, 2003 by MICTL, berth length of 450 m to handle bulk cargo as Terminal T2, and about 801 m container berth; both are operational in the year 2007-08.
  • For operation and development of container terminal the company has associated in May 2003 with P & O (MICTL) - an international container terminal operator, which has brought foreign investment of Rs.1400 crores in terminal development.
  • The company has set up 1 SPM for import of crude oil.
  • The total port project would be developed at an investment of @ Rs.4610 crores.
  • The port has handled about 25.78 million tons of solid and liquid cargo and 1.15 million TEUS of containers during the year 2008-09.

Dahej LNG Terminal A joint sector company M/s. Petronet LNG Ltd., have been formed by Oil sector PSU's of Government of India for development of the port. All PSUs holding 12.50 % equity in the company.

 

 

 

  • The project have been envisaged an investment of Rs. 3130 crores.
  • LNG terminal have been operational since February 2004. The terminal has a capacity of 7.5 MMTPA LNG handling.
  • The company has made an investment of Rs. 2800 crores.
  • The company has undertaken expansion of LNG storage facilities at the port which would augment storage and re gasification capacity of about 10 MMTPA.
  • The company has also planned to built additional LNG berth at Dahej port for which MOU has been signed in Vibrant Gujarat 2007
  • The company has handled about 6.46 million tons of LNG during the year 2008-09.

Solid Cargo Port Terminal

  • For the solid cargo terminal development, Petronet LNG Ltd. Company has formed a SPV M/s Adani Petronet (Dahej) Port Private Ltd. (APPPL) with Adani group.
  • Government of Gujarat has approved the participation of Adani group in development of solid cargo terminal.
  • This will be developed under sub concession, as per the provision in main concession agreement, which was executed on 3/1/2007.
  • The company has started construction of solid cargo berth of Phase 1 plan with estimated cost Rs. 550.70 Crores.
  • The construction of solid cargo terminal is in progress.
  • Dahej Port will be connected by BG Rail line through conversion of existing NG line. The project would be implemented through SPV which has formed.

GMB has issued LoI to M/s. Dholera Port Ltd. (a group of companies of JK white cement). GOG has also accorded approval for joining of Adani group as a Key Promoter for the Dholera development. The company has obtained Environment Clearance for the project. Revised DPR is submitted by the company. This port site may be relocated in view of the proposed Kalpsar Project in the Gulf of Khambhat.

A joint sector company namely Gujarat Poshitra Port Co. Ltd. has been formed to develop Poshitra port. The project is awaiting Environment Clearances. Port of Rotterdam has shown interest for participation in Poshitra port development.
